Olena Kapustinska
Deputy Managing Partner,
Attorney at Law

It is not a secret that business in our country is of some interest for the law-enforcement authorities. There is no need to explain why. One can become a defendant in a criminal proceeding without committing a crime. In this case one should follow two simple principles: “no panic” and “no harm”.

Do not do yourself, your partners, your business harm.

Examination by the law-enforcement authorities can go without pressing (however, one should always bear in mind that it is possible). Examination can be conducted as a friendly conversation so one can fall into a trap. And any impetuous remark could have negative consequences.

Our practice of business protection in criminal cases shows that timely engagement of a legal counsel allows not only to follow the above principle “no harm”, but also to protect the client from abusive practices of the law-enforcement authorities.
